WE DID
IT! $2 million in TFIN funds raised will be committed to the District.
These funds -- in combination with the $1 million allocated from employee
furlough savings -- will enable the District to rescind all 107 K-8 teacher
pink slips, restore 20:1 class size in primary grades, and preserve our school
communities!
This is an exciting victory shared by all members of our
community! We thank the dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this
success possible, the donors who embraced this opportunity to preserve quality
education, the business community for rallying behind our schools, and all
district employees for their personal sacrifice in this shared
effort.
Support
Our Children. Protect Our Schools. With the state slashing funds for
public schools, our community is banding together to fight back. Their Future
Is Now! is a partnership between the parent community, Cupertino Educational
Endowment Foundation (CEEF) and the District. Their Future Is Now! steps in
where state funding leaves off to keep our schools academically strong and
nationally competitive.
How Bad Is The
Problem? State budget cuts are threatening the
quality of our children's education and their future. If nothing is
done, core academic instruction across all grade levels will be impacted. We
can expect:
Lower quality of
instruction: We will lose up to 115 highly skilled teachers across
kindergarten thru 8th grade, the equivalent of losing 4 schools.
Disruption to our
children's education: Teacher layoffs are done on a seniority basis,
regardless of performance or grade level. Remaining teachers will be reshuffled
to new grades and new schools throughout the district. That steep adjustment
will come at the expensive of our childrens education.
Reduced academic
performance from our children: Primary grades will see a 50% increase in
class size. Research shows that students in smaller 1-3 classrooms outperform
their larger classroom counterparts on standardized tests; this benefit
continues through high school. In fact, increasing to 30 students per class
over these 3 years is equal to giving up as much as 14 months of instruction!
What
Can I do? We must act now to protect our
childrens future! Contribution to a district-wide fund is the ONLY
means to safeguard classroom instruction. School-level fundraising is
restricted from hiring teachers. As a district, we must raise
$3.0 million by May 15th to preserve high quality education for our
children. The time to act is now!
With a contribution
of just $375 from each district family - that's about $2 per day of instruction
- we can save our excellent school programs together.
If your
family can give more than $375, please consider sponsoring a family who cannot
meet the full donation. Your generosity will get all of us closer to the goal
of saving our children's quality education. If your family cannot make at $375
donation at this time, please contribute an amount that makes sense for you.
All donations are warmly welcomed. CEEF ensures that every dollar you donate
will be used for the stated purpose of the campaign. Please
DONATE NOW! to submit your tax deductible
donation today, then check if your employer matches non-profit donations.
This is a community-wide problem and only a community-wide effort will
win the day. Together, let's make a difference.
